I found this summary of a Politico article on crazy American political years to be somewhat reassuring. In particular, the comment from Ron Chernow about how Lincoln was followed by Andrew Johnson (not Jackson) was particularly interesting. I have pondered whether the current Obama to Trump succession was some sort of bizarre echo.

Politico is invaluable. I used to love Salon and Slate, but they've gotten so clickbaity. The transition from Obama to You-know-who has almost driven me to drink. Actually, it has somewhat. I'll go look at the article and try to find some reassurance in it!

Yes, that part is encouraging. But I agree with the writer they say came closest that You-know-who is sui generis. Gonna be an interesting year. I'll keep hoping for calmer times!
