Dear North Carolina Legislature:

To where do i bill the hours of distress and effort my spouse is going through in trying to make sure she will not be harassed or arrested due to HB2?

Maybe not so dear,

I don't know how i advocate for Christine publicly without discussing very sensitive and private subjects. What a stupid law.

I'm listening to Debt: The first 5000 Years and it underscores the interrelationship of patriarchal culture, debt, slavery, honor, policing female purity, and violence. It's a useful lens for looking at the apparent "Oh noes think of the childrens" reaction here vs gun violence.

All cultures are irrational; ours is insane!

We're a melting pot of millennia of irrational cultures, and all the irrationality is rising to the top?

I hope the inevitable repeal comes soon.

Thanks, we are choosing to foresee even better protections for the vulnerable as the eventual outcome.

I've frequently been thinking of the two of you when I see HB2 mentioned.

A friend of mine who transitioned in allegedly liberal-ish MA used to get flack at a former job for restroom issues -- and this is even with a lame attempt at accommodation: she had been assigned a specific restroom on a floor different from her cubicle's, and this at an office where time away from the desk was tracked and penalized. On one occasion, the Officially Approved restroom was in use, so both urgency and the need to return to her desk led her to use a different one. Some anonymous complaint led to an "oh, no, this isn't a reprimand" meeting with HR. The kicker: these were restrooms that only one person could use at a time anyway!

That was wordier than I intended.

Re wordier: no worries, you don't have to grade it!
