Until recently i would have said all of the above (except buds and sprouts, maybe). Recently i have been trying to become a great fan of waiting (wu wei)
or active non-acting. I would want the best image possible and "buds and sprouts" seems to fit better than the other images. Wait until the mud settkes so i can see more clearly what can be done without doing more harm than good.
So i would add "settling mud."

I feel like I spend so much time waiting, i.e. doctor/dentist offices with an institutional-looking couch and a stack of old magazines as the image, but also, so many bits of time, waiting for something at a specific time, and can't get anything done in between now and then. I think it was in "Little, Big" that one of the characters imagines folding up all those little bits of time and putting them in an envelope, to be taken out later. So much clock-time.

I mean, there are different kinds of waiting--the hopeful kind, the dreading kind, the tedious kind. The "watchful waiting" kind. Yesterday, a AYF said to me, "Look at these trees with me. They're worshiping with us while they wait for their leaves to come again!"

But usually when I'm not worshiping, I think Bus Stop is a better fit. *clicks*
