Local folks: want bird seed including unopened 20 lbs of sunflower seed? At least ten pounds of niger thistle seed? (Also, at least 10 lbs of cheap mixed seed)? A thistle feeder? A bigger seed feeder? Humming bird feeder & food mix?

One of the cats has suddenly become far too successful a predator. I suspect Edward. And while Edward will still have other places to hunt, i can't keep feeding birds at the risk that we're making it easier for him.

Cats! Our dog is similar with rabbits, but we took away a lot of backyard vegetation, which cut the problem back.

Your decision makes sense.

I've been meaning to set up a new CEU (Cat entertainment unit)for a while, and this might spur me to do it. I'll take stuff on loan in case you decide to go back to bird feeding. :) Cats here (mine and my neighbors) are all indoors - the manager's runs free but rarely gets down here. WE see cats very very rarely at night, so I imagine we're a safe zone, more or less. Not responsible if the small hawk who lived here a few years ago comes back. ;)

But I probably won't do Hummers - they're very labor intensive. Seeds and feeders, delighted to have.

Fabulous! This afternoon or weekend? I've plunked the seed feeders into an old seed bag -- haven't cleaned them.

I am comfortable with nature red in tooth and claw: hawks are hawks.

We might keep the hummer feeder up: they seem very wary and they come on the deck for flowers, anyhow.

I am swamped with this weekend's open house through Saturday. Sunday might be possible.

Argh! I hope you can still enjoy some birdwatching without setting them up for being hunted. I just ordered a new birdfeeder - the squirrels have gotten too good at taking over the supposedly squirrel-proof feeder I had. Friday almost caught a squirrel last week, had her paw on it, but the squirrel escaped up a tree. She's a good hunter, but not that good.
