Silly girl shopped online all morning after sleeping in. Bird feeder selected and ordered. Seltzer makers to reduce disposable plastic selected and ordered. Glorious mixer syrups collection (West Indies Orange Bitters, Falernum, Blue Curacao, Curacao-Triple Sec, Orgeat Almond Syrup, and Sloe Gin) selected and ordered. (I passed on a bitters collection, despite the attraction of Aztec Chocolate and Celery bitters, also passed on the floral waters despite rose water, lavender water....)

I have to say, the world of decadence introduced to me by the Amazon cocktail mixer offerings is incredibly tempting. There's an Italian wild cherry pronounced miles superior to maraschinos. So tempting.

I'm happy to see Leaky the Towhee back this morning. I found legs, bits of feathers and some entrails disgorged new a soundly sleeping Edward cat this morning, presumably the indigestible bits of some early morning dining elsewhere. The legs seem about right for towhee legs. I'm hoping the new feeder will be more attractive to such birds and will reduce the attraction of spilt seed.

Why is the humming bird poking at the suet?

Off to see about some cold press water color paper for Christine and cat food.

Indeed!

Also, i do want to say that your series of bird photos have been delightful. I try bird shots periodically and rarely get as nice an image as you do.

Which selzer maker did you order? I have an old one that uses CO2 cartridges, but it doesn't get as fizzy as I'd like.

I ordered the iSi soda siphon. Lots of reading yesterday lead to the following understanding (1) it ain't ever gonna be as fizzy as commercial because of safety issues, (2) make sure everything is very very cold (thus the machines aren't going to be as successful), and (3) agitate while infusing the CO2 (ditto). There are some build-your-own implementations that get around 1, but those have comments like, "You idiot, this isn't safe, you need a proper air pressure regulator between the widget and the whatsit."

Do you think you can try either the chilling or shaking with your system?

I think I have a similar one. Chilling it in advance helps, but requires more planning :P I have used two cartridges at the same time, but haven't tried shaking it, so I will try that next. It always scares me a tiny bit to screw in the CO2 canisters - I think it will explode or something. I miss the seltzer that we got delivered when I was a kid (kind of like the milkman, there was a seltzer man, with returnable bottles.) It had incredible fizz.

Some folks in the Amazon comments shared your fond memories. One person wrote that the glass bottles are too popular for decorations or resale. A company tried taking up seltzer delivery again, but the deposits for the bottles ran around $300. Apparently the company didn't make it.
