So, in the world of, Wow, that arrived quickly, the case for my new phone arrived yesterday. Cool, i thought, and snapped it on in time to go to the grocery store. There, I was trying to take a note and half the screen seemed to not respond to the stylus.

Did i break the phone when i dropped it on Friday? No, it had worked while i was at meeting.

It's the magnetic closures on the phone. They disturb the screen significantly and dull responses to the stylus.

For crying out loud.

New cover ordered; old one returned.

I should have realized it would be an issue: I guess i just assumed no one would manufacture something so stupid. Silly me.

???!?
Magnetic fields screw up capacitive screens? I didn't know that.
I'm gonna go mess around with magnets for a bit.

No, it screwed up how the stylus works, not the capacitive screen. The "s pen" uses a magnetic field to power itself (cool) and calculate position and pressure. With magnet exposure, the capacitive touch sensitivity remained while the stylus was fubar.

Which explains the product fail -- i'm sure the folks designing the case were designing for a good number of high end phones and didn't buy working phones to test. Can the buttons be pressed and all the ports accessed? QA pass.

Indeed -- the stylus is a unique feature of that device, though, so i imagine someone just didn't know.....
